Introduction to the Online Edition of the Etymologicum Gudianum
[for users on mobile devices: jump directly to the simplified interface of the digital edition]
General Introduction
The online edition (complementing and extending the printed version) is the main digital output of this project and will provide the first complete critical edition of the Etymologicum Gudianum, accompanied not only by an English translation and extensive commentary (beyond what the printed edition can offer), but also by curated versions of other source texts that currently lack an up-to-date edition or are difficult to access. Its interface incorporates digital images of many of the relevant manuscripts, offering aids to locate the page areas relating to each entry. In addition, the online edition will include additional tools to provide more multi-faceted access to all the materials integrated into it.
Given that the previous, early 20th century critical edition of the Etymologicum Gudianum by E.L. De Stefani broke off one third into the entries for lemmata starting with the letter zeta, our new edition initially comprises all entries for letter zeta, and will be extended to cover the full content of the Etymologicum Gudianum, incrementally adding entries for both those letters covered and those not covered by the earlier edition.
The online edition is a group effort by the entire Etymologika team. More detailed attributions of authorship will be added in a future release.
We appreciate your feedback. An email button is provided at the top of the info menu within the edition.
